Parsuram Jayanti Story

Lord Parshuram is the sixth avatar of Lord Vishnu. The legend of Parshuram dates back to the Treta Yuga. In Sanskrit Parashu means axe and Rama is Lord Sri Rama.

Literally the name means Rama-with-the-axe. Parshuram was born to Jamadagni and Renuka. His father was a brahmana and his mother belong to Suryavansha Kshtriya clan. He was thus known as a “warrior Brahmana” or the warrior saint.

Parshuram is referred in many texts namely the Bhagavatam, Mahabharata, Kalaki purana and Ramayana. There is description in these texts saying that Parshuram is an avesha avatar.

He was born into the soul of a man rather than by direct descent. There are legends pertaining to Parshuram that his main purpose of advent on the earth is to rid the planet of impiousness and wrongness.
Parshuram revolted especially against the powerful kings who exploited people by misusing their status. Parshuram took severe penances to please Lord Shiva and received the transcendental axe.
He learnt the methods of warfare and other skills from Lord Shiva. He was known for his dedication to his parents.
