Lalbagcha Raja2013 tomorrow in Gold and Silver

The second oldest mandal in Mumbai, the Chinchpokli Sarvajanik Utsav Mandal, is across the road from the Lalbaugcha Raja. This year the Chinchpoklicha Chintamani will complete 93 years but it probably won’t get as many footfalls as the two rajas. Former president, Umesh Mohite, said that this preference for the Lalbaugcha Raja doesn’t bother him. From where he lives, he can see devotees alighting from cars, trains and buses and heading towards the Lalbaugcha Raja. Some do somersaults or walk on their knees till they reach the idol. “We say that all Ganpati idols are the same,” said Mohite, “but [the Lalbaugcha Raja] is fixed in people’s brains so they go there only.”
Mumbai, Sept 14 (IBNS) For Mumbai’s most celebrated occasion of Ganeshotsav, jewellery maker and retailer Gitanjali Group has introduced gold and silver coins embossed with an image Lalbaugcha Raja, the popular public Ganesha idol kept at Lalbaug, a prominent locality in the city during Ganesh Chaturthi festival.
